Elvis the mechanic
When Don isn't being Elvis he's fixing transmissions. Today he worked a '77 Trans Am, which he purchased 8 years ago and completely refurbished.
Cheerleading Competition
I had the day off but saw that there was a cheerleading competition assignment. I decided to shoot just the backstage stuff and see what preparation was involved. Very interesting. Lots of squealing and glitter.

Start of a story
Today I met Don Smith an Elvis impersonator who will be competing in an Elvis impersonation contest next week. He practices in his basement and has a brand new Elvis suit and all kinds of Elvis memorabilia in his home. I only shot a portrait of him today but hopefully I get to see him at work, in practice, with family, and finally the night of the competition.
Here's Elvis...I mean Don.

Re-editing some stories
This past weekend I read a chapter in one of my old textbooks about photo stories, it's Ken Kobre's book Photojournalism The Professionals' Approach in case you were wondering. I read it and then re read it giving myself two days in between each read to see if I would discover something else I might miss first time around. I did miss things. I missed the examples Kobre gave of how to find photo stories and how Life would give photographers a list of things to shoot to ensure visual variety.
After reading it I decided I wanted to re-edit stories that I shot in college. I think reviewing the images after reading the chapter helped me to identify what I was missing or what I wish I would've shot.
So here's what I did: I made a bunch of laser jet black and white prints, nothing special, and just taped them up to my wall. Then started reorganizing and moving images around. I'll probably leave my first edit up for a couple of days and then come back and look at it again.
Here's my edit, any suggestions or critiques are welcome! (note: these images haven't been toned or cropped yet)

Wrestling Tournament
This was not my first wrestling tournament, in college a shot a high school tournament for one of my classes. However, I found this one more enjoyable than my first. I do miss the equipment from school because shooting at my highest ISO with a camera that is not very good in low light stinks. Especially when my batteries in my flash died. Next time I will remember to put extras in my bag.
I decided to shoot the victory and the defeat along with action.

Inside court
I've gone to court a few times to photograph a case of two men who were charges with killing a woman in Saginaw back in February of 2011. Today the jury reached a verdict. Both men were found guilty on all 12 counts that they were charged with. Not matter what the outcome; both sides would've cried.
I've photographed in court a couple of times and the people that seem to suffer are the women. Either it's the victims side where women are crying because they've gotten closure of the defendants side who now have lost their partner.

Details from a basketball game
Maybe it's because I shot a video today, maybe it's because the stuff was interesting, or maybe I was bored with sports action. Which ever it was, I shot some details at a girls basketball game. Here they are.
