Halloween

This year for Halloween I decided to work on something that I'm not very good at, portraits. This is the perfect time to practice something like portraits. I get to work with flash and lighting kits and try to work with setting something up. Here are some of the portraits I like.

Shy Drager Syndrome is a degenerative disease that causes severe drops in blood pressure, vision loss, and increased risk of infections. James Jefferys was diagnosed in 2008 and his wife Rhoda is his care giver.

the weekend

This weekend I went north. Well actually I went northwest, not quite to Traverse City or the Upper Peninsula but to Cadillac. It was incredibly windy which made camping a little difficult but renewable energy plentiful.

HS sports

In non terror related photos, I've begun to shoot lots of high school sports. Regionals and state tournaments are approaching so it's only going to get more sports intense. I don't consider myself to be a sports person, in photographic terms, but I've found myself enjoying these shoots more and more. There are millions of moments in a single sporting events and forces me to think quick. Beyond the field and court are interesting spectators and coaches.

The other nice thing about sports is if you a long-lens-a-phob like I am it forces you to try and work with something completely foreign. So yay for 300mm and shooting vertical, sometimes.

Here are a few sports photos that I've shot the past two weeks

Haunted House/ I'm a wuss

Last night myself and a writer got a special your of a new haunted house. I'm a wuss and get easily scared. Oh and I have severe arachnophobia and of course there was a whole room dedicated to spiders. After getting chased by one of the actors I got the whole group to wait long enough so I could take some photos.

Til Death Do You Part

This couple has been married for 43 years and the part of the vows that say "til death do you part". Chuck a Vietnam veteran had a stroke last year that effect his cardiovascular system and was on and off life support 6 times. He wanted to sleep in his own bed so his wife Diana spent 3 days learning to use a ventilator. She is always with him. That's taking your vows seriously.

My second swim meet

This was the second time I've shot swimming. The first was for the Junior National Disability Olypmics. This was a little different. Here are two shots that I liked. I wish the screaming girls were tack sharp.

too bad newspaper is like tree bark

My editor in Erie use to always tell me that the main reason to using a flash was because newspapers are like tree bark; the absorb everything and don't show much detail.

I spent the whole day shooting a boys tennis tournament in Midland and tried to play around with exposure. I wish I had brought the 300. Maybe another time.
