Football Take 2

Today was more successful with football than yesterday. Here's what I got.

AF on is no friend of mine

Today was my first high school football game. Ever. Thank goodness my editor went with me and showed me some of the ropes because I would've been taken out by a ball or player or yelled at by a ref. I had lots-o-trouble with this shoot hopefully tomorrow I will remember to let go of the AF button  and shoot better.

Here are some of the better of the worst.

Soccer and 9/11 play

With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 Bay City and Saginaw theatres are preparing monologues based on the events that took place. It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years.

Here is a play rehearsal and a boys soccer game.

Opposite end of the lens

The thing about photographers is that we're rarely on the other end of the lens. And we prefer it that way.

I got to talk with the little girl I spent a larger portion of my junior year photographing a few days ago and I realized how fortunate we, as photographers, are. How many people get the kind of access we do? How many people get to see and experience moments in other people's lives? Not many. It's such a wonderful thing that sometimes I find myself taking for granted. I sometimes get angry with people when they don't want me there photographing. It wasn't until a fellow photographer tried to take my picture that I realized how truly great the people who let you in their lives are.

This is all the photographer got out of me, I don't think I'd make a very good subject to photograph.

Volleyball

Volleyball is harder to shoot than I expected. The net is the tricky piece. You think a face is in focus and then it turns the net is actually the only sharp thing in the photo. While it was difficult I had a great time shooting this tournament and hope to shoot more volleyball.

Football Practices

I'm a football fan. I like to sit down and scream at the T.V. when the Bears do something good or when the Packers do something bad. Shooting football is very different. It seems just when I start to get the hang of a sport, it's season comes to an end. That's life I guess. My first football shoots didn't go as well as I wanted. Here are some shots I liked from the past week of football practices.

Lizard Fair

This Sunday I was at Lizard Fair. A local radio station hosts a big concert for fans and this year Flo Rida, Jay Sean, and Big Time Rush were the main performers. While I had no idea who Big Time Rush rush, I was at least familiar with the girl craze that comes along with boy bands, I did grow up with the Backstreet Boys after all. However I did seem to forget how high pitched young girls voices are. I'm fairly certain dogs all over Midland were whimpering. Here's some of the photos I liked from the shows.

Visiting kids in a hospital

Captain America and a giant pig suited man visited sick children today. I only was allowed to photograph two children in a span of 15 minutes. Talk about a time crunch. This little girl was more terrified than overcome with joy by their visit. I don't blame her.

Church I found

I only had one shoot today up in Bay City and on my way there I came across this huge church. I mean it was massive, I haven't come across such a large church since I went to Europe. The doors were locked but luckily a woman in the parish office let me go inside.

I don't consider myself a religious person but there is something about large churches that I love. Maybe it was the year of art history or knowing the amount of time it took to create something as intricate as a figure out of stone. Whichever it is, I'm just fascinated by them.
