Re-edit of boxing

With the help of Meredith, here's a re-edit of the high school boxing story. I hope to use these images in my submission to the Eddie Adams Workshop.

Same considerations as before:
1.) Are these the best images to tell the story
2.) Are there gaps, if so what do I need to fill, cause I plan to continue shooting with the intent to fill the gaps
3.) Did I tone/crop them to so that they shine

Swings

Last evening I wasn't able to shoot with Catherine or her family so instead I went to Highland Park. There is something about a swing that really clears my head and is relaxing. So I played with long shutter speeds and swung back and forth.

Eddie Adams

Time to prep images for Eddie Adams Workshop, I didn't apply last year and I kinda kicked myself for it but now I'm hoping to put together some images. I've received a lot of help from professors Meredith Davenport and Gunther Cartwright. Here are a selection of images Meredith helped me to edit down to a 5-7 image story about Courtney and Caroline.

Things I need to consider and if you can offer some suggestion please do!
1.) Are these the best images to tell the story
2.) Are there gaps, if so what do I need to fill, cause I plan to continue shooting with the intent to fill the gaps
3.) Did I tone/crop them to so that they shine

21st birthdays

My roommate and friend since 6th grade had his 21st birthday about a year about and here are some of photos from the party his girlfriend threw him. I feel a little like Gary Winogrand,  I take these photos and decide to not look at them for a while. Well not exactly like Winogrand, I didn't die with over 2,500 rolls of undeveloped film.

Delayed film scans

Over Christmas break I took a 4x5 camera home. I wish I had done more portraits of my family, especially of my grandmother who I rarely see but she, like me, prefers to not be in front of the camera. The first is of my younger sister who I'm very close to and my boyfriend. The second is of my mom.

Beginning of the Alphabet

I started looking through Magnum members and I started at the top with Christopher Anderson. This is photograph of a couple in Lithuania. The photographs vary from simple compositions to a complexity of faces and hands. I want to improve this part of my photography. I'm going to try and go to the public market tomorrow and just shoot. Just for the heck of it. Hopefully Christopher Anderson's style will guide me.

East High School Play

While I'm really shooting video for East High here are two stills from their play practice. I hope my video comes out well. Video is much more challenging to shoot because there is so much more to think about. Are my audio levels ok on the mic? How about the camera? How about the recorder? And that's just making sure the audio sounds good, never mind trying to remember wide, medium, tight, super tight and to use a tripod and don't break the 180 rule. Ah! Some much to remember! Hopefully with practice all of these things will get easier or at least committed to muscle memory.

Revisiting home

Yesterday after seeing her belongings in storage Catherine wanted to go to see her home. We spent sometime just walking around 9 Ravenwood Ave then stopped by to see her middle daughter and grandson. Things are turning around for Catherine though, today she called me to let me know that Fannie Mae  is going to reissue her a loan for her home. It's these kind of triumphs that really make me feel like there are people out there who care for one another.

Meeting the Family

Yesterday was a good day. The sunny was shining and Rochester experienced one of it's few cloudless days. Catherine got to see all three of her daughters and I got to meet them as well. It was a good day. Here are some shots from my first visit with her daughters and some of her grandkids. I then got to spend some one on one time with Catherine in her hotel room. We watched Sex and the City 2 and ate roasted pumpkin seeds.

Catch Up on Catherine

Catherine was evicted on Monday of this past week. I'm missed the eviction but luckily Catherine has been working with Fannie Mae, Country Wide, and Bank of America to get a new loan so she can move back into her home.
